November 25, 2002
Did I mention that my husband is the most wonderful man in the world? He surprised me on November 19th with an incredible gift. Somehow he pulled off a big surprise and got two horses I was interested in for a surprise early Christmas gift. And boy was I surprised! Thanks to Ken and Button Lee of Amazing Grace Farm for helping him pull it off!
He asked me to take off work Tuesday, the 19th to help him do some work at the office. I told him I would take part of the day off, so I left work about lunchtime. But when I got there, he just kept fiddling around, and distracting me from working on the books like I was supposed to be doing – he was acting pretty strange – he was just all happy-acting, and he kept pestering me to be happy-acting, but dang it, I was trying to work!
So, then all of a sudden, we just HAD to leave the office to go work on the house because – I don’t know exactly why, but there was something he just HAD to get done by tomorrow for the plumber, and something about our neighbor Mike wanting to look at trees for firewood – What in the world! I didn’t understand AT ALL why he needed me to take off work to help at the office, but then all of a sudden it was really important to leave the office and help Mike look at trees?
So when we pulled up to the property, there was a huge trailer in the driveway, and my first thought was “Why does Mike need a trailer to look at trees? Or maybe he’s trying to take some trees somewhere - And where did he get a horse trailer? And WHY did he get it?” But then we got close enough to read the name on the trailer. And I thought I recognized it – and I thought maybe they were going to park their trailer at the property while they were in town – but then I remembered I hadn’t told them how to get to our property. And I started to realize . . . .
About a month ago, I came across Amazing Grace Farm of Nahunta, GA, who had some beautiful mares for sale. And I just happened to have enough room and hay for another horse or two this winter even though it’s been a bad hay year. AND, they just happened to be coming up this way in 2-3 weeks to pick up a couple horses that they had purchased from a guy in New Hampshire who was going to meet them about half-way, so they would be passing through Knoxville. But Bob wouldn’t let me get one. I had talked to the lady several times, and determined my first, second, and third choices. I was in serious salesman-mode trying to convince Bob to let me get one. I thought I almost had him convinced, and asked Button another couple questions by email, when she replied that she had just taken a deposit on the ones I wanted the most. I was SO upset. I honest-to-goodness cried. And I pouted. I was kind of mean to Bob about it.

So you’re starting to figure it out? It took me a good while. When I figured it out, I went to look in the trailer and see the horse – but there were TWO horses there. My husband never does anything half-way! What a great guy!
