March 11
It’s finally starting to look like spring (Knock-on-wood)! We’re in that crazy transition time where the days are beautiful, but the nights are still cold. I’ll wait a couple weeks before I shave all Buttons’ wooly-mammoth winter coat. Every time I look at her on a warm day, I have to remind myself it’s still cold at night.
We planted pine tree saplings along the length of our driveway. It will be a few years before you can really see them. Right now they’re little bitty pine-tree-tufts. When they do grow, I think they will be a very nice touch.
All the mares are together again, and sure enough – they remembered who they did and didn’t like. Missie and Whisper are back to being inseperable, and Scooter and Sierra gravitate toward each other as well.
The house is finally shaping up. Just in time for foal watch! We just finished the tile in the bathroom and kitchen, and we will have cabinets and plumbing by this weekend. We will be all set to start staying out there. Once we have a working toilet and shower, what else do you need? The flooring in the rest of the house should go pretty quickly – it’s glueless laminate, and just clicks together. After that, we just have to install the interior doors, trim, and finish the deck steps and stonework on the outside of the house. It’s getting close . . . FINALLY!
